We believe good places grow from their surroundings. Light, landscape, materials and the way people live all have a part to play. Our approach is simple: to make spaces that feel natural to their setting, work beautifully, and become better with time.

iki kaya (EE-kee KAH-yah) means ‘two rocks’ in Turkish.

The name comes from a white limestone outcrop rising from our Aegean olive grove. Rock is one of the most elemental materials — carefully stacked, it can form walls and buildings that feel tactile, enduring and rooted in place.

Our work is informed by an Aegean sensibility — light, simplicity and a close relationship with nature. Whether working in an urban setting or rural landscape, we believe in indoor-outdoor living, spaces for lingering rather than rushing, and design where function and beauty are inseparable.

What we do

London

In London, we create contemporary homes that respond to the character of the city and the way people live in it — from terrace house extensions and loft conversions to whole-house renovations, flat refurbishments and new homes.

Turkey

In Turkey, we work closely with the existing land, trees, local materials and ustas (Turkish craftsmen). The aim is to create places that sit naturally within the landscape — for living slowly, gathering together and enjoying the outdoors.

Our design process

We can lead a project from early feasibility through to construction, or tailor our involvement around as much or as little of the process as you need.

  • Good design starts with understanding what is already there, and what is possible.

    Feasibility & brief

    We begin by understanding the existing building and site, planning context, access, views, landscape, budget and ambitions to establish what is possible.

    Concept design

    From there, we explore layouts, light, materials and how the spaces will be used, developing a clear design direction that is tested against the budget as it evolves. Developing the architecture, layouts, materials and atmosphere of the project.

    Planning

    If needed, we will prepare and submit planning applications and work with the local authority to navigate requirements and respond to feedback.

  • The character of a project lives in the details.

    Detailed design

    This is where the important decisions get resolved — how new meets old, how materials come together, where services run, how a piece of joinery works, or how one floor finish meets another. Producing the construction details required alongside the technical information needed to build the project.

    Tender & contractor selection

    We develop the design into a buildable project, preparing the drawings and information needed to price and construct it, reviewing quotations and helping you select the right team.

  • We stay involved while the building takes shape.

    Construction support

    Construction is where drawings meet reality. We visit the site, communicate with building control, review progress, answer design queries and work with the contractor to resolve the unexpected things that inevitably arise during a build to help ensure the finished project reflects the design.

    Completion

    Helping with the final details, snagging, finishes and installation of furniture and bespoke elements.

iki kaya extends beyond architecture into a way of living connected to place.

Alongside our studio, we produce our own olive oil each year and maintain a small collection of‍ ‍holiday homes within the olive groves — places to slow down, gather and experience the landscape we call home.

We host informal meals, gatherings and events that bring people together around food, landscape and the places we have created.

Director, Architecture & Design

Kim Walker

Kim leads the Studio’s London projects, bringing creativity, problem-solving, practicality and warmth to her work.

With over 20 years’ experience in architecture, Kim has worked with award-winning practices including Levitt Bernstein Architects, before founding iki kaya.

Her perspective has been shaped by life across three countries — a connection to nature and the outdoors from growing up on the U.S. West Coast, the urban street life and heritage of London, and the craft and simplicity of a village on the Turkish Aegean.

Director, Turkey projects

Eren leads the Turkey side of the Studio, connecting people, ideas and the many details that bring a project to life.

With a background in building and scaling complex technology products, he brings a practical, structured approach to the studio — helping shape ideas, make decisions and turn them into reality.

Originally from Turkey, Eren brings a deep understanding of the local culture and way of life. From coordinating the olive harvest to working with local craftsmen and looking after guests, he makes sure that the details, intentions and conversations behind each project are carried through.

Eren Gökçek
